About McKenzie Lake

McKenzie Lake is the older, more established sibling to McKenzie Towne — built through the late 1980s and 1990s around a 43-acre private lake that residents still use for swimming, paddleboarding, and ice skating. The lake itself is meticulously maintained by the community association, and the swim test in summer is real (locals will know what we mean).

The housing stock is meaningfully different from newer SE communities: larger lots, mature trees, and a higher proportion of detached two-storey homes with double-attached garages. Walkout lots backing onto the lake or the Bow River escarpment command serious premiums on resale, and some of the original 1990s homes have been beautifully renovated rather than torn down — a pattern you don't see in newer subdivisions.

McKenzie Lake School (CBE) handles K-6, with Mountain Park School covering 7-9 and Lord Beaverbrook the public high school catchment. The community sits between Fish Creek Provincial Park to the south and the Bow River pathway to the east, so trail access is genuinely excellent — running and cycling routes are right outside your door without needing to drive anywhere.

Pricing typically runs $550K-$900K for standard detached, with lake-access and walkout homes pushing well past $1M. The buyer profile here is mostly families upgrading from McKenzie Towne or other SE communities who want lake access without paying Mahogany prices, plus established locals who never want to leave. Compare with Mahogany, Auburn Bay, and Chaparral for other lake-community options.
